Silk is one of the traditional yet rare components of rug weaving. Since silk is extremely strong, it is sometimes applied to help the rug to keep its shape. As a result, silk is almost invisible on these rugs. One needs a tentative eye to spot these ‘gems’ on the rugs.
Luxurious silk rugs ‘Qum’ is almost entirely made out of silk. These are meant to be decorative pieces that are hanged on the wall. They could placed on tables or drawers too.
Such silk rugs are extremely finely weaved; each square meter can have up to 5,000 knots. The rugs are extremely thin and soft and softly reflect natural light.
The most popular colour on Qum is a soft cream white. Other representative rug colours such as auburn, Persian blue, autumn brown and more are on Qum rugs too.
