About Hamadan Rugs

Hamadan rugs are made in the city of Hamadan and surrounding areas in western Persian by hand. The wool that they are made from are hard-working and are taken from sheep that are herd in high altitudes. Colours are primarily from vegetable dyes.

The Hamadan rug patterns vary, whereby it can be geometric, to floral and of an overall Herati designs,with the knots per square in being from 80 to 140 and are normally woven on cotton foundation. They are of good quality pile wool that is some time include camel hair.
