Description
Coarsely woven rugs from Afghanistan, using European aristocracy inspired designs that are now quite collectable.
Afghan Zieglers are usually made in carpet sizes, although smaller rugs are becoming increasingly popular. The original Ziegler Mahals belong to a different category altogether: they were made under the auspices of the Ziegler Company during the late 19th and early 20th centuries in Persia, which are now extremely collectable and expensive.
The contemporary Afghan Ziegler appear employs identical designs and colour palette to antique Ziegler Mahals but the knot count is slightly coarser as they have been weaved at speed for the European market.
