Description

Tabriz
These popular carpets from the extreme northwest of Iran, near the Turkish border, can be recognised by their Turkish knotting, which is worked with a hook on fully stacked warps. Another distinctive feature is the modern colours in which they are made – burnt orange, persimmon, light blue, pistachio green etc. This often do not contain deep reds found in other traditional Persian rugs.
Rugs from Tabriz are made in various designs, including garden designs and all-over boteh design, hunting scene or animal designs. These may incorporate a medallion, with or without an open field. The Shah Abbas designs is also commonly used.
Tabriz rugs are made on cotton foundations in a range of qualities, from fairly coarse to extremely fine. In average-quality rugs, heavy wefting is used to provide body and durability. The pile height of the finer rugs is lower than the pile of other qualities. These rugs can be very tightly woven and compare favourably to the Isfahan in density of knotting.

All our rugs at Oriental Rug Gallery are hand weaved carpets by professional rug artisans, village weavers and nomadic tribes in Middle East, Asia, Eastern Europe and Africa regions. Our rugs range from designer artist labels to rugs lovingly created by women at home. Oriental Rug Gallery specialises in Persian rugs, but we also have a selection of other authentic rugs from other regions in the world. Give us a call on 07768616666 to find out more about this rug.
