The most prevailing pattern is the large-scale all over with floral pattern or central medallion, repeating pattern (such as Herati) are also used. The border is usually made up of three bands. Mahal rugs are predominantly woven in shades of reds and blues with rather coarse knitting. The finished rugs are soft and supple. They are available in sizes from 12 by 9 to 18 by 12 feet.
