Description
Shiraz is the capital of Fars province in the southern Iran. It serves as a collection point for the rugs made by nomadic tribes in this area. Rugs are also produced by villages in the region, as well as in rug factories. In the city of Shiraz itself there are a number of weaving schools.
The brightly coloured, geometrically designed Shiraz rugs are made on woollen foundations and are usually single wefted, often with a distinctive dark fringe. The Shiraz district also produces more flat-woven rugs than any other part of Iran. Kilims are also worked in the standard Shiraz designs that feature a column of large medallions.
Shiraz rugs are worked in a medium pile height, usually in small sizes, although larger pieces do appear now and then. The quality of these rugs can vary from coarse to medium, and some are quite loosely knotted. The patterns becomes more obscure in the more coarsely woven pieces.
All our rugs at Oriental Rug Gallery are hand weaved carpets by professional rug artisans, village weavers and nomadic tribes in Middle East, Asia, Eastern Europe and Africa regions. Our rugs range from designer artist labels to rugs lovingly created by women at home. Oriental Rug Gallery specialises in Persian rugs, but we also have a selection of other authentic rugs from other regions in the world. Give us a call on 07768616666 to find out more about this rug.
